How to use it

Formula
Base remaining years = CDC's actual published remaining-life-expectancy figure at the two nearest sourced ages (0, 40, 60, 65, 70, 80), linearly interpolated between them (or extrapolated beyond age 80, the table's oldest anchor point). Adjusted remaining years = base remaining years + smoking adjustment (never: 0, former: −3, current: −10 years) + exercise adjustment (sedentary: 0, moderate: +1.8, high: +4.5 years), floored at 0. Total life expectancy = current age + adjusted remaining years.
Worked example

A 35-year-old male who never smoked and exercises moderately: interpolated CDC base life expectancy around 77-78 years total, adjusted up by about 1.8 years for moderate exercise (no smoking penalty since he never smoked) — an illustrative total around 79-80 years.

This is a population-statistics illustration, not a personal prediction. It starts from real CDC actuarial base rates for a handful of specific ages and applies directional, study-cited adjustments for exactly two lifestyle factors. It does not and cannot account for genetics, family history, healthcare access, specific medical conditions, environment, injury risk, or the countless other factors — most of them un-modelable by any calculator — that actually determine any one individual's lifespan. Smoking's roughly 10-year reduction is one of the most consistently replicated findings in public-health research (CDC tobacco-mortality data); the exercise gains use pooled cohort estimates from Moore et al., PLOS Medicine (2012, ~654,827 participants). Never use this number for insurance, financial, or medical decisions.
