Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

This is a starting template, not legal advice. Before publishing, have it reviewed by a lawyer familiar with your jurisdiction (and GDPR/CCPA if you have EU or California visitors). It's written to accurately describe what CalcoTools actually does today — update it if the app's functionality changes.

Overview

CalcoTools ("we," "our," "the site") is a browser-based collection of calculators and converters. This policy explains what data is and isn't collected when you use it.

What we do NOT collect

  • No accounts, no sign-up required to use any calculator. There is no registration, login, or user profile.
  • No calculation data. Nothing you type into any calculator — salary figures, health measurements, passwords you generate, dates, or any other input — is transmitted to us or stored anywhere. It exists only in your browser's memory for as long as the page is open, and is discarded the moment you navigate away or close the tab.
  • No cookies of our own. CalcoTools does not set or read first-party tracking cookies. (A cookie-preference banner is present so that if you accept advertising below, that choice — and Google's own cookies described in Advertising — are handled through it, rather than bolted on separately. See the Cookie Policy.)
  • No third-party analytics. No analytics platform (Google Analytics or otherwise) is embedded in the site.

What we DO collect

  • Per-browser usage counters, private to you. The site tracks how many times you've opened each tool and how many times you've visited the site, stored only in your own browser's local storage, to power a personal "recently used" list and this device's own display. These are not shared, aggregated, or visible to anyone else — a previous version of this policy incorrectly described them as shared/global counters; they are not, and never leave your device. You can clear them at any time from within the app or by clearing your browser data.
  • Your region (for currency, number, date, and unit formatting defaults). By default this is detected automatically from your IP address's country — a coarse, non-precise signal (which country, nothing more precise) read via Cloudflare's edge network and stored in a short-lived (24-hour) first-party cookie, not logged or retained by us beyond that. This is standard "strictly necessary" functional processing, the same category as a language-preference cookie — it's what lets the site show your currency and date format correctly without asking. If you manually pick a different region (the selector in the header), that choice is stored the same way as your other preferences — locally in your browser — and always overrides the automatic detection on later visits.
  • Your cookie-preference choice, stored locally with a timestamp once you interact with the preference banner.
  • Your email address, only if you join the waitlist. The "Go ad-free" button opens a form for CalcoTools Pro updates. If you submit it, your email address is sent to our email-list provider (configured via a form endpoint) to add you to that list — nothing else about your session is sent with it. We use it only to email you about CalcoTools Pro; we don't sell or share it. You can ask us to remove you at any time (see Contact, below).

Third-party services

Two features currently call external services directly from your browser:

  • Currency Converter requests live exchange rates from a public rates API (Frankfurter, which itself sources from dozens of central banks). The amount and currencies you're converting are sent to that service to compute the result; we don't see or log this.
  • Image to Text (OCR) downloads its text-recognition engine (software, not your data) from a public CDN the first time you use it. Your image itself is never uploaded anywhere — recognition runs entirely in your browser after the engine downloads.

The QR Code Generator previously sent entered text to a third-party image service; it no longer does — QR codes are now generated entirely in your browser.

Planned: server-side processing for two tools (not live yet)

Two tools in active development — Background Remover and PDF to Word — will need to briefly process your file on a server, because the conversions they do can't run in a browser. When they launch, this policy will be updated to state plainly, before you use them: what's uploaded, that it's automatically deleted within 60 minutes, that it's never used for any purpose beyond producing your result, and where it's processed. Every tool on the site is labeled either "🔒 Runs entirely in your browser" or "☁️ Processed on our servers" so this is always clear on the tool page itself, not just in this policy.

Advertising

CalcoTools works with Google AdSense as its advertising vendor. As of this policy's last-updated date, the site's ad infrastructure and Google's own site-verification are live, and the site is going through Google's account/site review — no real ad may yet be visibly showing on the pages you see, since that also needs individual ad units created in AdSense (a separate step after approval), but the mechanism described here is real and already in effect, not a placeholder for the future.

When ads are live, Google AdSense may use cookies and similar identifiers (such as the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads and, where you've consented, to personalize which ads you see based on your visits to this and other sites. Google acts as an independent controller of this data under its own Privacy & Terms and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

This is consent-gated, and defaults to off. The cookie-preference banner — provided by FlexyConsent, a consent management platform certified in Google's CMP Partner Program and integrated with the IAB's Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF) — asks for your choice on advertising specifically. That certification is what lets this site serve personalized ads to visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland at all: Google requires a certified, TCF-integrated CMP for that specific traffic, not just any consent banner. Until you actively accept, no ad-personalization cookie is set and Google serves — at most — a non-personalized ad, which relies on contextual signals rather than tracking. You can change your choice at any time via the preferences control FlexyConsent adds to the page (a small button, usually near the bottom-left corner) — doing so takes effect immediately for future ad requests.

Regardless of your choice, an ad slot reserves layout space to avoid content shifting when it loads — see Ad slots below.

Ad slots reserve layout space regardless of consent

Whether or not you've consented to advertising, the site reserves empty space in its layout for where an ad would go, so the page doesn't visually shift when one loads. An unfilled reserved slot renders nothing — no request to Google, no tracking, no visible placeholder — until AdSense is fully approved, live, and (separately) you've consented.

Data retention

Locally-stored data (recently-used tools, region preference, cookie choice) persists in your browser until you clear it or clear your browser data — we have no way to access, back up, or delete it remotely, because it's never sent to us. Waitlist email addresses are retained until CalcoTools Pro launches or you ask to be removed, whichever comes first.

Your rights

Because we don't collect most data at all, there's typically nothing to access, export, correct, or delete on our end beyond a waitlist email address, if you've given us one. If you have questions about what's described here, or want your waitlist email removed, contact us at altheriontechnologies@gmail.com.

To withdraw advertising consent, use FlexyConsent's preferences control (the small button it adds to the page, usually near the bottom-left corner) at any time — this stops future ad-personalization cookies from being set on this site. To manage how Google personalizes ads for you across sites generally, visit Google Ads Settings; to opt out of interest-based ads from multiple providers at once, visit aboutads.info/choices.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site's features change. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
