Cookie Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

Short version: CalcoTools sets exactly one first-party cookie, for region detection. Google AdSense, our advertising vendor, may set its own — only if you consent.

Cookie Set by Purpose Duration
calcotools-geo-country CalcoTools (first-party) Detects your country (via Cloudflare's edge network, not a tracking script) to show the right currency, date, and unit formatting by default 24 hours

No session cookies, no tracking cookies, no analytics cookies. The region cookie above is "strictly necessary" functional processing — the same category as a language-preference cookie — and isn't gated behind the consent banner below, the same way a currency default isn't advertising. Google AdSense, integrated as this site's advertising vendor, may set its own cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) to serve and, if you consent, personalize ads — see "The cookie-preference banner," below, and the Privacy Policy's Advertising section for what that involves.

Why there's a cookie-preference banner

You'll see a cookie-preference banner on your first visit, provided by FlexyConsent, our consent management platform (a certified partner in Google's CMP Partner Program, integrated with the IAB's Transparency and Consent Framework — see the Privacy Policy for why that certification matters for EEA/UK/Switzerland visitors specifically). It governs your consent for advertising cookies. Your choice defaults to declined and is remembered locally in your browser; you can change it any time via the small preferences button FlexyConsent adds to the page (usually a circular icon near the bottom-left corner) — changing it takes effect immediately for future ad requests.

Technically, your choice is published via the IAB's standard Transparency and Consent Framework signal (window.__tcfapi) — every purpose starts with no consent recorded, and only becomes granted once you actively accept, which any TCF-aware ad request (including Google's) reads directly. Separately, and more directly, the site's own ad-slot code checks that same resolved signal itself before ever requesting an ad — so declining blocks ad personalization through two independent mechanisms, not just one.

What CalcoTools uses instead of cookies, for everything else

Beyond the one region-detection cookie above, a small amount of state persists in your browser's local storage so features like "recently used tools," a manually-chosen region override, and your cookie choice work:

  • All of it stays on your device. None of it is a browser cookie, and none of it is visible to us or to other visitors — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what's stored and why.

Third-party services

Two tools call external services directly from your browser — the Currency Converter (live exchange rates) and the Image to Text / OCR tool (downloads its recognition engine, not your images, from a CDN). Those third-party services may have their own cookie practices, which this policy does not cover — check their respective privacy policies if you have concerns.

As with the other policy documents, have this reviewed by a lawyer before publishing, and revisit it immediately if you add any cookie-based feature (login sessions, ad networks, analytics platforms, etc.) in the future.
